Training - Defensive Handgun
The ability to use a handgun in self defense requires some degree of dedication to the art of pistol craft. Our defensive handgun course is designed to take a moderately experienced shooter to the next level in handgun proficiency. Students participating will learn the basics of defensive use of a handgun and participate in discussion relating to use of a handgun for personal defense.
Course length is 8-10 hours. DO NOT BRING LIVE AMMUNITION INTO THE CLASSROOM!
You will need to bring:
- Minimum 150 rounds of ammunition
- Eye protection rated z-71 or z-87 (Check the lens or frame for z-71 or z-87, we have loaners)
- Hearing protection of -26 db (Check the instructions for noise reduction, we have loaners)
This course will cover:
- Review of safety fundamentals
- Review of basic handgun handling and manipulation
- Position of arms
- Reflex/point shooting
- Retention shooting
- Moving and firing
- Reloading
- Use of cover
- Malfunctions
- Drawing from a holster
- One hand manipulations
- Failure to stop drills
This course DOES qualify for 4 hours of CEU training required by Missouri Department of Professional Registration.
